Season Preview 2013

All the information you need and a lot of information you don't to get your up to speed as Xavier heads into the 2013 - 2014 season.

Season Preview, part 1

Xavier has reloaded the roster and is on back in the mix for NCAA tournament contention (as are all 351 D-1 teams). The first stretch of the non-conference season will take Xavier all the way to the Bahamas; here's who they'll face along the way.

Know Your Non-conference Opponent: Cincinnati

The Crosstown Shootout is a big game every year. Here's everything you need to know to be up to speed on UC.

Know Your Big East Opponent: Georgetown

Georgetown has become infamous for collapsing in the NCAA tournament. This season they'll bring back all but Otto Porter from a team that really should challenge for the Big East title again. The NCAAs? We'll see.

Know Your Non-conference Opponent: Wake Forest

The Skip Prosser Classic is back on as both teams have something to prove this year.

Know Your Non-conference Opponent: Alabama

Alabama had a down year least season, but Anthony Grant's blend of new faces and a familiar scheme is set to put them back in the tournament.

Know Your Big East Opponent: Marquette

Marquette starts the season as the only ranked Big East team. With Davante Gardner and Jamil Wilson returning, along with a host of top 100 recruits, they look good money to hold their spot.

Know Your Non-conference Opponent: Evansville

I'm about to infinitely increase your level of knowledge on the Evansville Purple Aces.

Ken Pomeroy on Xavier and the new Big East

KenPom is the best place on the web for finding college basketball info. What does he think of the Big East and Xavier this year?

Sunday Conversation: 10/27

Go big or go small, Randolph and Richards, trying to figure out how MAC stats translate to the new Big East, and coming close to saying this is a very good roster.

Semaj Isn't Under the Radar, But Xavier is

When previewing a conference with which you are apparently unfamiliar, it's usually best to do some research. That's apparently not a requirement for Grantland's Mark Titus, though.

Musketeer Madness on Fox Sports One

For those of you who may, somehow, not have noticed, Xavier has joined the Big East. Fox Sports One's Big East Tip Off Party showcases the blessings, and occasional curse, of making the jump.

Player Preview: Kamall Richards

Kamall Richards is a scorer coming on to a team where shots are already going to be difficult to find. Can the young man adjust to longer being the biggest gun on the team?

2013 Player Preview: Erik Stenger

That Erik Stenger has gotten this far and is getting his school paid for is a testament to his hard work more than innate talent. When does the string run out for the senior?

Player Preview: Jalen Reynolds

Jalen Reynolds is nearly as tall as anyone else on the team, incredibly athletic, and, at 21 years of age, he's also not your average freshman. Can he be a dominant inside force for Xavier this year?

Player Preview: James Farr

James Farr burned a year of eligibility on 42 minutes last year. Whether or not he should have redshirted, the sophomore now faces a fight for playing time.

Player Preview: Matt Stainbrook

Matt Stainbrook is in the best shape of his career and already a fan favorite at Xavier. If his passing ability and his new body hold out, he could be the best offensive post Xavier has had in quite some time.

Player Preview: Justin Martin

Justin Martin is capable of both overpowering offense and staggering stretches of apparent apathy. Is there any way to predict which version will show up this year?

Semaj Christon Lands Big East/Top 100 spots

Sophomore Xavier guard Semaj Christon is beginning to show up on all the right lists.

Player Preview: Isaiah Philmore

Isaiah Philmore struggled out of the gate before having a great second half. Can Xavier count on the big man to continue the high intensity rebounding efforts that made him so valuable?

Frontcourt Preview Week

The guards have been broken down and discussed, now it's time to move down low. Does Xavier have a replacement for Travis Taylor?

Sunday Conversation: Backcourt

A holiday bumped it back a day, but here is the first Sunday Conversation of the 2013-2014 Xavier basketball season. Just how good can this backcourt be? Is Myles Davis ready? Will Dusty Baker ever work again?

2013 Player Preview: Semaj Christon

The lynchpin of Xavier's backcourt from a year ago returns to lead the charge again this season. How much Semagic should Xavier fans be expecting?

Player preview: Dee Davis

Dee Davis played the most minutes of his career last year while Xavier struggled for guard depth. This year there are plenty more guards, and a commensurate drop in available time. How the diminutive point responds could be key to the Musketeers year

2013 Player Preview: Brandon Randolph

The latest highly-recruited guard to hit campus, Brandon Randolph was once a Pepperdine commit before deciding to travel from California to Cinci to join Xavier. What should we expect from the Inglewood native this season?

Player previews and a synopsis of Xavier's reloaded backcourt.

Know Your Big East Opponent: Creighton

Creighton joins Xavier in making the jump to the Big East. With them comes a strong contender for conference player of the year and a bevy of outside shooters.

Know Your Non-conference Opponent: Bowling Green

My mom graduated from BGSU. That probably won't help the Falcons when they visit the Cintas Center.

Know Your Big East Opponent: Seton Hall

Seton Hall used to be one of the marquee teams of the Big East. Those years are long since passed, but this team is starting to make the long slog back toward relevance.

Know Your Big East Opponent: Providence

Providence may have been overlooked in a loaded conference last year, but their incoming class and strong returning players could mean a jump to the next level.

Know Your Non-conference Opponent: Miami (OH)

Xavier takes on the RedHawks in the Charlie Coles Classic. Here's what to expect from a Miami program in transition.

Know Your Big East Opponent: DePaul

The Blue Demons were an amazing 2-16 in conference play last year. A revamped backcourt and a drastically different conference make for some hope, but not much.

Know Your Non-conference Opponent: Morehead State

The Eagles bring in a ton of new faces this year, apparently having no trouble finding guys who go for Morehead.
