As expected by most projections, Dailyn Swain announced his commitment to Xavier today, joining fellow 4-star recruits Trey Green and Reid Ducharme in what currently ranks as the 10th best class in the country according to 24/7 Sports. Swain is a 6’7” wing out of Columbus Africentric and held a host of D1 offers and had also considered Arizona State, Arkansas, Clemson, and Ohio State before settling on Xavier. Swain ultimately cited Xavier’s proximity to Columbus as a factor as well as the high paced style Sean Miller will seek to have his teams play in his return as Xavier coach.
Swain figures to bring a different set of skills to the wing than fellow commit Ducharme does. Ducharme makes his mark as a sharpshooter first and foremost while Swain excels in transition, using his size, athleticism, and handling to put opponents under pressure and attacking off the dribble. What will be of note to Xavier fans of the past couple of seasons is the rave reviews Swain’s court vision and unselfishness have received, a similar strength to that of current Xavier wing Colby Jones, who may or may not suit up alongside Swain. In addition to his knack for making the right plays in transition, his ability to guard multiple positions is another aspect of his game that will draw comparisons to Jones, although Swain is listed at anywhere from 170-180 pounds, so may need to fill in his frame as he enters college.
Looking forward, this class has added another player praised for his toughness and tenacity, something that fans remember fondly about the teams under Sean Miller’s first run at Xavier. Swain has also hinted that he, Green, and Ducharme are going to be advocating for X with fellow recruits moving forward as the 2023 class continues to fill out. Even with the rest of the class unclear at this point, the three commits that Xavier has added over the summer point to a bring future at Cintas.
