To paraphrase Sir Alex Ferguson, lads, it’s summer.
Summer is not a great time for college basketball, but that doesn’t mean nothing is happening. For starters, Xavier is still coached by Sean Miller. Somewhere in the hustle of a thousand soccer games, the start of baseball season, and finishing the school year, that little tidbit had slipped to the back of my mind. It came back to the fore the other day and brought a smile to my face. Life is good, Xavier Nation.
It’s also good because the Cintas is hosting The Basketball Tournament this summer. Xavier’s Team Zip Em Up is loaded again and now will have the added benefit of a home crowd. Listen to (well, read) this roster: Dee Davis, Semaj Christon, Trevon Bluiett, JP Macura, Kerem Kanter, Matt Stainbrook (I’m assuming he’s signed on as driver), Justin Martin, and Kaiser Gates. Toss in a couple friends of the program and you have a loaded, and fun, team. Tickets are $100 for all seven games at the Cintas. JP needs a four bedroom home in the area for the week of the The Tournament if you can live in your garage or something. Oh, and CJ Anderson is one of the coaches. It’s going to be mental.
Finally, per the program:
Xavier University and the University of Cincinnati announced the dates for the Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout for each of the next two seasons. Xavier will visit Cincinnati this season on Dec. 10, 2022, in the 90th all-time meeting while UC will visit XU at Cintas Center on Dec. 9, 2023. Xavier has won three-straight games, seven of the last nine and 11 of the last 15 meetings. Xavier won the meeting in the 2021-22 season at Cintas Center, 83-63, XU’s ninth-straight win over UC at its on-campus home.
The team is still hard at work in the gym. Following them on IG is well worth it if you want to see the new guys meeting the squad and Adam Kunkel draining threes. As soon as any real news breaks, we’ll be here with it.
