With this news, a Xavier team what was looking thin with the departures of Tandy, Ramsey, Griffin, Wilcher, and Carter is suddenly set to return 7 of their top 8 in points per game and add a pair of well thought of recruits sown low, to say nothing of the potential for incoming transfers to further bolster the rotation.
This move likely puts Xavier’s focus on the transfer market exclusively on the front court with Scruggs, Nate Johnson, Adam Kunkel, and Dwon Odom all set to take a major portion of the minutes at the guard positions. Add in the extremely promising looking Colby Jones and the returning Ben Stanley on the wing and it is abundantly clear that Xavier’s priority should be to bolster the post where Zach Freemantle and Dieonte Miles are the only returners.
Beyond the basics of roster composition, Scruggs return is a huge boost for Xavier because it would be a huge boost for any program. He is an efficient scorer, was an excellent distributor when called upon to be one this season, and is the undeniable leader of the team. He is a good player who the fans love because he represents the school and its fans well. There is simply nothing not to love about Paul Scruggs if you are a Xavier fan.
