The NCAA Selection Show served up the news that we were all expecting, but that doesn’t mean Xavier’s season is over. The Musketeers are going to the NIT for the first time since we started covering the team and for the first time since 2000. Much like the NCAA tournament, there is bracketology for the NIT, and Xavier features prominently.
SBNation’s Mid Major Madness (follow them for all of your American Athletic Conference needs) does NITology. Right now, they project Xavier as a three seed taking on the Dons of San Francisco in the first round. While that may sound like a cakewalk, San Fran currently sits exactly one spot below the Musketeers in the KenPom rankings.
DRatings also predicts the NIT bracket. As it stands, they also see the Musketeers as a three seed, albeit one without a projected opponent. To see the projected six seeds, visit here and scroll down past the bracket that you really want to be in.
Finally, things get intriguing. NYCBuckets has been projecting the NIT bracket for years, and this season he has served up a stormer for Xavier fans.
Welcome to Selection Sunday. This is where my NIT bracket stands as we start the day. Three potential automatic bids still out there: Big West, Sun Belt, Ivy League. pic.twitter.com/P8sBZT2qpO

You see that correctly. That’s Xavier v. UD in the first round of the NIT. It’s not the NCAA, but that’s an oh so juicy consolation prize.
