First, the news:
JUST IN: Xavier freshman Keonte Kennedy is taking time off for personal reasons. He will not practice or play in games during this period, according to the school
— Adam Baum (@AdamJBaum) February 19, 2019
Kennedy, you may recall, first committed to the team under Chris Mack before decommitting when Mack did. He ended up signing with Xavier again, obviously, but his career hasn't been a ball of fire from the outset. He hasnt played since February 3rd and has only 5 points in Big East play.
From Kennedy's perspective, you wonder if he looks at Elias Harden's increased playing time, Q and Scruggernuts coming back, and Kyky Tandy and Dahmir Bishop coming in and reads for himself an unfavorable future at Xavier.
Xavier currently has 12 scholarships committed for 2019, which leaves them one spot to work with. Top-50 2020 guard Zach Harvey has shown interest in both attending Xavier and reclassifying to 2019, and X also figures to be in the market for an immediately-eligible big man. Right now, they would have to choose one of those two to pursue. If a scholarship comes open for any reason, it could be a boon for the Muskies.
