— Daniel Ramsey (@Daniel_Ramsey5) August 6, 2018
Ramsey is 6’8” 220 and had just cut his list of schools to six a week ago before making his official visit to X midweek. He appears to have liked what he heard from both his lead recruiter, Jonas Hayes, as well as Coach Steele and becomes Xavier’s second 2019 commit, joining Elias King. Scouts have always been high on Ramsey’s skills for a player of his size, but his rise over the past year to the brink of the top 100 has coincided with him answering some questions about his athleticism. He figures to bring a well rounded offensive game to X, with the ability to play with his back to the basket or step out and hit jumpers something that will figure to make him a hard matchup for opponents. On the defensive end, the upside he offers seems likely to depend on how quickly he can get his body into Big East shape, but the buzz is that once that happens he figures to be a player who can guard multiple positions.
Perhaps even more excitingly for X fans is that Ramsey continues a trend of Xavier having major success in Georgia, due mostly to the hiring of Jonas Hayes, with Ramsey joining King and 2020 guard Dwon Odom as highly rated Georgia natives to pick X over Tom Crean’s UGA program. Ultimately, I don’t care if a kid comes from Mars if he can be a contributor for X, but the establishment of such strong recruiting reach this early in the Steele era is yet another extremely encouraging sign that he is taking Xavier in the right direction.
