Tongue in cheek headline aside, Kaiser Gates has worked out for the Eastern Conference champions. Kaiser profiles as a swingman in the NBA, and there’s nowhere he would get more time to release his shot than from running with the best player of all time. The upgrade from Cincinnati to Cleveland would probably also play a significant role in Gates decision making process. As would actually being drafted by the Cavs.
More seriously, Trevon Bluiett has hit the circuit to get ready for the draft as well. Bluiett was not invited to the NBA combine, which means scouts either have seen enough of him to know what they have on their hands, or the NBA isn’t sure he’s worth a second look. Teams that are taking a look at Trevon so far are the Chicago Bulls, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings, and the Utah Jazz. The concern with Bluiett re: the NBA remains his athleticism. There aren’t a lot of 6-6 NBA players that make dunking look like serious effort. On the other hand, there also aren’t a lot of NBA players that have the pure shooting ability Trevon does. As galling as it is for a Cleveland fan to type, Golden State and their pass happy style might be a great fit for him.
JP Macura worked out at IMG’s pro basketball combine with another collection of players not invited to the official NBA combine. Since impressing there, JP worked out for the San Antonio Spurs. For the last week JP has been, at least according to his Instagram, in Beachwood, an extremely affluent Cleveland suburb. Feel free to speculate as to why, but I don’t know for sure. Not blessed with the obvious physical gifts of Gates or the pure stroke of Blueitt, JP will rely on his athleticism and ability to create to get a look in the League.
