You may have noticed that Xavier has been relentlessly hyping the new uniform designs for this year. “Tradition” has been the byword, leading to a great deal of Twitter speculation that something along the lines of a throwback would become the standard. Given that Xavier hasn’t really had a bad uniform, that’s by no means a bad thing. Yesterday, the answer was finally revealed.
Never let it be said that Xavier’s graphics department missed the opportunity to get some swords in there. A few thoughts on this new uniform:
- It’s nice. There’s nothing objectionable here, nothing where you are going to cringe if you have to watch a game with a non-Xavier friend. But... it’s just nice. There’s not really anything all that different here either. It’s solidly from the “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” school of thought.
- I do like the swords on the legs. That’s distinctly Xavier.
- Anything that is a step forward performance wise is a good thing. Basketball uniforms used to breathe only in that they moved up and down when you did. By the end of the game, some of the older designs had picked up noticeable weight in sweat. That won’t be a problem now.
- Are we going back to short shorts?
There’s more coming from our favorite program as we get closer to the season. The Musketeers are now one of the elite teams in the nation, and they are promoting like it. A little more attention on what used to be a normal occurrence just brings more eyes to the program.
