As is custom these days, when a major midwestern school found itself with a vacancy at the helm of their basketball program, as was the case at Ohio State earlier this week, the rumor mill spun into action, linking Coach Mack to yet another job percieved as better than Xavier for no apparent reason. After hilariously trotting out names like Jay Wright, Sean Miller, and Brad Stevens, all of whom would have to take significant steps in the wrong direction to find themselves plying their trade in Columbus, social media settled in on Mack, Cronin, and Chris Holtmann as the next set of names to trot out, presumably forgetting to link Tom Izzo or Bill Self to the job.
That is where the plot twisted for X fans as it was revealed that the Macks' house had recently gone up for sale. Coach Mack, who is currently enjoying a vacation sets minds at ease with this tweet:
My timing for this house sale, well . But we are moving to NKY. Love Xavier! Now, about that house we have to sell... any takers?— Chris Mack (@CoachChrisMack) June 7, 2017
And so it would seem that Coach Mack is not interested in taking a job where he can hope to one day attend a press confererence where he is uncerimoniously dumped after being the program's most successful coach in recent memory, maybe ever. The search of the Big East where they set their sights a bit (although not much) lower on Greg McDermott, who is rumored to not be compensated as well by Creighton as Mack is at X. Surely this time they have found their man and can move forwa-
I'm blessed and honored to be the coach at Creighton.....and am looking forward to many more great years in Omaha! #rolljays— Coach McDermott (@cucoachmac) June 8, 2017
Oh dear. Maybe they can get Matta back.
