From the presser:
Xavier you know. Kansas State finished the year 30th in the KenPom, one step above the Muskies. Like X, they were an 11 seed in the NCAA tournament.
Arizona State is kind of a step down the scale at 125th, but maybe Bobby Hurley has them moving in the right direction here. George Washington was 132nd... the “stellar” descriptor is really sliding a bit here.
UC Irvine was 139th, Hampton was 310th, Rider was 208th, and Northern Arizona was 323rd. I didn’t check, but I’m assuming none of them were in contention for an at-large bid this year.
Xavier will still have plenty of at-large muscle on the schedule - Baylor and Colorado have return legs at Cintas, X will travel to Utah, there’s still going to be a Shootout, et c. - but the Thanksgiving tournament in Vegas will have Xavier pitted against at least two teams that aren’t that much different than buy games. With a stacked five-man recruiting class coming in, a couple of lighter games on the schedule might not be a bad thing for the holiday.
