If you had to pick: Xavier uniforms

Thank Oregon for all of this. In the times of our forefathers, college basketball teams had two uniforms to pick from: their homes, and their aways. Then some teams added another alternate. Then a fourth. Then Oregon decided that maybe a uniform for every game was appropriate. I’m relatively certain there was a game where they swtiched at halftime. Now, we have this. At least none of these are that atrocious camo.

The thing about all of Xavier’s uniforms is that they look really good. At no point are you going to tune into a game and see your favorite team wearing something that looks like it was rejected from a fun box from Crayola. No, the Musketeers stuck with primary colors and two fun throwbacks. But which of those are you most looking forward to seeing?

We start with the standard four. Home whites, away blues, and alternates in varying shades of black. Of these, the gunmetal grey are new and they are, frankly, pretty nice looking. Another thing worth noting is that the black and the blue this year will be easier to tell apart. It could be eyes growing old, but there were times last year I was uncertain if we were in a very dark blue or wearing the black. Moving on.

The Runningman at home. It’s a striking bright blue on white with the old logo sprinting on the side of the shorts. In an era where logos are becoming more angular and all resemble graphic design functions, this one stands out.

The all new road Runningman. This one is that same bright blue, just writ large. If any uniform Xavier has is a concession to the new highlighter phase, it’s this one. It’s hard to tell just how bright it will play, but it certainly looks bright on the screen.

So which of those are you most looking forward to seeing when the Musketeers take the floor this season? For me, it’s the away Runningman. It’s going to be bright and eye catching, but it remains uniquely Xavier. It’s a testament to the design department that they kept the classic look of the university while simultaneously releasing an updated look that appeals to a new generation. I can’t wait to see what it looks like.
