The Big East Conference schedule came out today and, with that, Xavier’s basketball slate is set for the year. FS1 is once again the national home for Big East and Xavier basketball and literally every conference game will be televised nationally. 27 of Xavier’s 31 currently scheduled games are on national television, and the other four will be available regionally.
Somewhat differently this year, there is no marathon kickoff on New Year’s Eve. Xavier does play on the day generally reserved for college football and intoxication, but it’s at 11am. The annual Big East Marathon will be played on Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 16th), with the entire conference playing games. Marquette and Butler (marquee matchup!) will tip off at noon that day, followed by Xavier hosting Creighton. Games keep tipping all day until 9pm.
In this era of everything being available on your phone, the conference and Fox Sports have also combined to launch the Big East Digital Network.
BIG EAST basketball during the 2016-17 season will also be carried on the BIG EAST Digital Network. BEDN has its own branded channel within FOX Sports GO, the app that provides live streaming video of FOX Sports content at home or on-the-go. FOX Sports GO app users who are also subscribers of participating video providers can live stream men’s basketball telecasts carried on the FOX broadcast network, FS1, FS2, and the FOX Sports Regional Networks.
That’s all well and good, but what about Xavier? The games against Villanova will be the big ones. Xavier heads to Philly on Jan. 10th and hosts the Wildcats on Feb. 11th. New rival Georgetown is the opponent in the aforementioned NYE game and again less than a month later on Jan. 22nd. If you’re looking for that perfect home conference game to spot a grown man sitting on furniture and swinging his legs like a bored child, St. John’s visits Jan. 7th.
As per the norm, Xavier’s excellent athletics communication department already has the full schedule done up and ready to go.
58 days to go.
