With Vanderbilt and Washington playing late into the night on Saturday, Xavier and UC Santa Barbara have been pushed to 3pm Sunday afternoon for first pitch. The combination of weather and extra innings on Friday and more weather delays and long games on Saturday got the Nashville regional well behind schedule, and there will not be an attempt to get things back into line with a midnight game.
Because the schedule has been shuffled, championship Sunday will become championship Monday. After Xavier and UCSB play at 3pm, the loser of that game will play in an elimination game at 9pm Sunday night. The winner there will stay alive but need two wins on Monday to advance to the super region.
This delay is something of a break for Xavier, as they would have been facing a really long day on Saturday if they had to go ahead with the initial revised schedule. Now Xavier will be able to rest up for the game against UCSB. A win there would give Xavier the rest of Sunday off before having two to win one on Monday.
