The Crosstown Shootout will be played in January or February this year, according to someone who told CBS Sports who told Jon Rothstein who told the whole world via Twitter. The annual rivalry game will be contested at Fifth Third Arena this year, a venue widely considered to be one of the top dozen or so places to play college basketball in the city of Cincinnati.

The last time the Shootout was contested as a break in conference play was two years ago, with UC also hosting. That was the Dee Davis Game, so called because Dee Davis went full Dee Davis all over the Bearcats, punctuating the contest with a last-minute three that will be the shot everyone remembers even though the game was actually later won from the free throw line by Trevon Bluiett.

Last year's game was at Cintas and was played before Christmas. You might remember it for, among other things, Edmond Sumner providing Octavius Ellis with what would end up being the second-worst dunk related moment of his senior season. Sumner's dunk effectively ended the game, which Xavier went on to win quite easily.

The Musketeers will head into the 2016-2017 season as a top 10 contender looking to erase the bitter memory of an early exit from last year's tournament. UC will come into the year still looking for someone to teach them how to play offense.
