As first reported by everybody and his mother, Larry Austin, Jr. has joined Makinde London in transferring out of the Xavier program. Makinde wanted to get closer to home, Larry just wants to get further from the bench. Coach Mack said, "Larry stated to us that he has a desire to transfer with a hope of getting more playing time. We appreciate Larry's contributions to our program and wish him well."
Larry was a spring signing for Xavier a couple of years back after Justin Martin transferred out. He had the upside of a Dee Davis 2.0, but the lack of development in his jump shot and the emergence of Edmond Sumner as a star and Myles Davis as a real option at the point squeezed Larry out. Adding four-star PG Quentin Goodin to the roster this year was probably the final blow.
Xavier now has two open slots on the roster with a possibility of up to four with Trevon Bluiett and Jalen Renyolds still in the NBA draft process. Larry averaged 10 minutes per game off the pine last year, but he was more or less redundant on this roster if you believe Quentin Goodin will show up ready to play.
