Xavier retains fifth in the polls, but all eyes are on tournaments

The polls are out again, but in less than a week the only numbers that matter will be one through 16.

Even UAB's coach is aghast someone voted for them

This will be our last poll update of the year. Yes, the polls will continue to come out, but you may be aware that next Sunday is something of a national holiday. We are firmly into the real Most Wonderful Time of the Year now, and the reality is that the polls really have no bearing on anything that happens after Selection Sunday. That said, it's time to recognize that this is the longest a Xavier team has ever been a fixture at the top. A team that was picked to finish fourth in the Big East ends the regular season ranked fifth in the nation. That's amazing, and hopefully it isn't the end of the story.

Doofus of the Week/Year:

Give Chuck McGill some credit, he's appearing here for the second time because he just loves him some UAB. The Blazers are 78th in the RPI, 108th in KenPom, and have only three top 100 wins this year. No, Chuck, no! Bad Chuck! The Blazers haven't played a team with a double digit ranking in over three months. This pick is 100% indefensible unless someone has kidnapped McGill's kids and won't let them go unless he votes UAB. It's fitting that on the last edition, someone crowns himself the king
