JP Macura wins Big East sixth man of the year award

Congratulations, JP!

The Big East announced postseason awards today, and it's no surprise that Xavier featured in them. Depth has been a strong suit for the Muskies this year, and the conference recognized that in honoring JP Macura as the league's best sixth man.

Macura boasted a shooting line of .480/.362/.865 on his way to game averages of 9.9/2.6/2.1 in Big East games. Macura's energy off the bench was a vital part of Xavier's 14-4 conference record. His ORtg of 121.1 in league play was third-best in the conference.

Many thought Xavier's reserve big man James Farr would be in line for consideration for the award, as he was the conference's best rebounder and Xavier's most productive big man. Obviously, having two players in contention for this award speaks once again to Xavier's depth.

The league's sportsmanship award was given to Kellen Dunham. JP was likely not mentioned in the conversation for that prize beyond someone making a play for a cheap laugh.
