With Xavier fans still recalibrating from the news that Trevon Bluiett is declaring for the NBA draft, another key player from the team made a major announcement today, this one, however, caused no heart palpitations amongst the fanbase.

Mercurial point guard Edmond Sumner will be coming back to Xavier to take part in his sophomore season. Obviously, this is a huge relief to Xavier fans. The odds that Sumner would have taken the next step and hired an agent aren't great anyway, but now it's a sure thing that Ed is back. As a freshman, Sumner averaged 11/3.4/3.6 and shot .397/.301/.727. While the shooting could use an uptick, it's worth noting that Ed was shooting better before his head injury and that he took the burden of trying to make offense happen late in the year when the Musketeers began to stagnate.

Besides, athleticism is the calling card of Sumner's game. As non-dunker Octavius Ellis may remember, Sumner is capable of swinging the momentum of an entire game with just one electrifying play. While that will eventually stand him in great stead in the NBA, his game isn't fully developed enough to take that leap now. Kudos to the young man for realizing that, and congrats to Xavier Nation for retaining its most dynamic player.
