I don't even know what to say. This should have been our year. This should have been the team. With two seconds left, Bronson Koening caught the ball on the run from sideline outs, took one dribble, and drilled a three with Remy Abell deep in his personal space.
Xavier left 7 points at the free throw line. Xavier's defense did pretty well against what the Badgers wanted to do. With the game tied and Xavier on the ball, Edmond Sumner was the victim of a shameful flop that got called an offensive foul, wiping a bucket off the board. The last touch of the ball in Xavier's season was by a freshman guard who shot 4-13 on the day.
With that, the curtain drops on Xavier's otherwise magical season. Remy Abell won't get his fourth Sweet 16 in four eligible years of basketball. James Farr's renaissance will have to continue overseas. Jalen Reynolds will begin the arduous process of deciding how old someone should be before he leaves school and starts making money.
The tears will dry for Edmond Sumner, JP Macura, Trevon Bluiett, and the rest of the Musketeers. The guys you just spend five months falling in love with will get back in the gym and prepare for next season, joined by Eddie Ekiyor, RaShid Gaston, Tyrique Jones, and Quentin Goodin.
Too soon, the offseason has begun for Xavier.
