Basketball started today (kind of)! Xavier got off the treadmills and onto the court today, with just over five weeks between today’s practice and game time. Here’s what’s going down right now:
- Myles’s legal situation is still up in the air. In the meantime, he’s still indefinitely suspended from the program. He goes to pretrial hearing tomorrow. Hopefully for Xavier’s sake things clear up quickly. Hopefully for Myles’s sake, he’ll be a million miles from anything that looks like trouble going forward.
- Trevon Bluiett’s appearance verifies reports that he trimmed down over the summer. Some stern feedback at Nike camp got him into another gear. If what we saw last year was chubby Tre, I’m excited to see what Shredded Tre does over the course of a year.
- Xavier made the cut for for 2017 big man Sterling Manley’s last four schools. Manley is still rated as a three-star recruit, but he has blown up over the summer and would be a huge commit for Xavier. For people who like to read recruiting tea leaves; be advised that Manley followed pretty much the whole Xavier roster on Twitter.
- The Muskies’ secret scrimmage will be against Georgia on October 29th. Why the NCAA insists on the charade of making these things closed is beyond me, but there it is.
I missed basketball, and I’m sure you did too. I can’t wait to see this team on the floor. In the meantime, our preseason coverage is starting to heat up, so check back often.
