Xavier's sophomore guard Edmond Sumner has been named to the preseason short list for the Bob Cousy Award, given annually to the nation's best point guard. Sumner follows in the footsteps of Semaj Christon and Tu Holloway as Xavier guards who have recently been o. The short list for this award.
One of the interesting things about Ed's candidacy is that he is not exactly a point guard in the most traditional sense of the term. Sumner will play on and off the ball for Xavier and is equally adept finding his own seat as he is in finding someone else's. The uncertain roster status of Myles Davis and the development of Quentin Goodin will go a long way toward determining how much distribution Ed ends up being in charge of.
Players can indeed play themselves onto it off of the list, but I would be surprised to see 20 other guards be more productive than Sumner through the course of the year.
