July evaluation period: 7/9 round up

Tyrique Jones continues to beast, Coach Mack continues to be spotted around the circuit, and other notes from yesterday's action.

Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports

Xavier verbal Tyrique Jones continued to impress yesterday, going for a beastly 14/8/2 with 2 steals and 2 blocks in a win over Indiana Elite. His motor and skill set are going to fit in well at Xavier. It's not in the bag that he's coming to X until pen hits paper during the signing period, but he ripped down a board in an earlier game and acknowledged Coach Mack's presence by throwing up the X. I love it when anyone does that, and it's a good sign that his heart is still with the Muskies.

Highly regarded Xavier recruit Taurean Thompson is out for a while with broken ribs, but he is excited about Xavier's interest in him. He's a 6'9" 2016 ESPN100 F/C with interest from other high majors, mostly on the east coast.

In point guard-related news, Coach Mack was watching a couple of big recruits, with Xavier Simpson drawing a crowd and producing in front of a handful of head coaches. Mack also watched Kobi Simmons - who has an official visit scheduled at Xavier this September - for the second straight day.
