Xavier took advantage of the evaluation period over the weekend to extend some scholarship offers. Here's a quick rundown on the new players on the Musketeers' radar.
Kevin Huerter 2016
Huerter is a 6'5" guard out of Shenendehowa (NY) capable of playing on or off the ball, but his most notable appeal is his ability to hit jump shots with range well beyond the arc. He shot 12-16 (46%) from beyond the arc at EYBL over the weekend. He has good length and basketball IQ which help him compensate for average athleticism. Rice, Albany, George Washington, and Davidson have all also offered.
Howard Washington 2016
Washington is a 6'3" pure point guard from Montverde Academy (FL). He isn't an explosive player but has a very high basketball IQ and runs the team well in the half court. He has shown skill in a variety of different offensive sets, sees the floor well, and has a good feel for pick-and-roll action. He also shoots the ball well from long range. He's a 4-star recruit with offers from Miami (FL), Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Memphis among others.
Dylan Painter 2016
Painter is a 6'10" power forward out of Hershey (PA). He hasn't been a high-major recruit for long, but he averaged a double-double for his high school this year and showed well at EYBL over the weekend. His bread-and-butter is scoring from the post, but he has flashed range out to the three-point line. He plays at about 230 and has strength at the rim commensurate with that size. Penn State, La Salle, George Washington, and Lehigh are all also in the mix.
Lamar Stevens 2016
Stevens is 6'6" wing with Roman Catholic (PA) and is built like a grown man. He is an aggressive and athletic driver who can finish above the rim on the attack. His mid-range game is coming along to supplement his attacking skills. He can be a bit of a ball-stopper on offense and isn't much of a three-point shooter. He rebounds aggressively on both ends and defends multiple positions well. He has carried an offer from Villanova since 2013 and also has offers from Penn State, Indiana, Saint Joseph's, and a host of smaller schools.
Tony Carr 2016
Carr is a 6'4" traditional point guard for Roman Catholic (PA). He has good size (obviously) and plays well in the open court. He is a good shooter and shifty on the drive, but his best attribute is his ability to set his teammates up for open shots. He does not excel in finishing through contact but he is a disruptive defender on the ball. Carr averaged 14.8/6.7/5.0 in four games at EYBL and has offers in hand from Georgetown, Indiana, and Maryland.
Goanar Mar 2017
Mar is a 6'7" combo forward out of DeLaSalle (MN). He's an athletic player capable of scoring from the wing, but his calling card at this point is defense. He is capable of guarding almost any position and generally defended his opponent's best player for his high school team regardless of where he was on the floor. He has good length and bounce and his anticipation skills help him disrupt shots and passing lanes. He also has offers from Iowa State and Nebraska and interest from high-major programs from Oregon to Miami (FL).
