Good morning! You're probably very excited about the upcoming Big East basketball tournament. If you're anything like me, you probably also want to know what your team will be seeded, whom they'll be playing, and when the game will tip off. Thanks to the twists and turns of the Big East conference season, the situation is fairly complicated despite the fact that there is just one day of games remaining on the schedule.

I'm here to help. I'll list each team in the league and what their potential seeding scenarios are. By the end of this post, you should hopefully be at least slightly less confused than I was in writing it. Good luck!

Villanova

Congratulations! You've won the league and will be the one seed. You'll play the winner of Wednesday's 8/9 game on Thursday afternoon.

Butler

Will be the 2 seed if: they win and Georgetown loses.
Will be the 3 seed if: they win and Georgetown wins.
Will be the 4 seed if: they lose and Georgetown wins.

Providence

Will be the 2 seed if: they win.
Will be the 3 seed if: they lose, Georgetown loses, and St. John's loses.
Will be the 4 seed if: they lose, Georgetown loses, and St. John's wins.
Will be the 5 seed if: they lose, Georgetown wins, and St. John's wins.

Georgetown

Will be the 2 seed if: they win and Providence loses.
Will be the 3 seed if: they win/lose and Providence wins.
Will be the 4 seed if: they lose, Providence loses, and St. John's loses.
Will be the 5 seed if: they lose, Providence loses, and St. John's wins.

St. John's

Will be the 3 seed if: they win, Providence loses, and Georgetown loses.
Will be the 4 seed if: they win, Providence loses, and Georgetown wins.
Will be the 5 seed if: they lose OR they win, Butler loses, and Georgetown loses.

Xavier

Congratulations! You're the 6 seed. Despite an inconsistent performance in the conference season, you have successfully secured a bye in the Big East tournament!

DePaul

Will be the 7 seed if: they win OR they lose and Seton Hall loses.
Will be the 8 seed if: they lose and Seton Hall wins.

Seton Hall

Will be the 7 seed if: they win and DePaul loses.
Will be the 8 seed if: they win/lose and DePaul wins.

Creighton

Will be the 9 seed if: they win OR they lose and Marquette loses OR they lose, Marquette wins, and Providence loses.
Will be the 10 seed if: they lose, Marquette wins, and Providence wins.

Marquette

Will be the 9 seed if: they win, Providence wins, and Marquette Creighton loses.
Will be the 10 seed if: they lose OR they win and Creighton wins OR if they win, Creighton loses, and Providence loses.

Got that? Thanks to that log jam of teams with 10 or 11 wins and the various tiebreaking rules and scenarios in play, almost nothing has been decided to this point. We know Villanova is the top seed, and we know Xavier will play as the six seed at 9:30pm on Thursday. Beyond that, everything is a mystery. Bookmark this page and check back often, as we will post a bracket (AND NOW WE HAVE) and begin filling it in as action develops on Saturday. May the odds be ever in your (favorite team's) favor.

UPDATE: here's your bracket.
