Selection Sunday KenPom Bracketology

Our final look at the bracket via the KenPom numbers.

After four and a half months of basketball, it's finally Selection Sunday. In about an hour, the Selection Committee will pull the lucky 68 teams from the national pool and plug them into the bracket. Some will rejoice. Some will blanch at the matchups they've drawn. Some will slink to the NIT.

Imagine with me for a moment though that the committee has been replaced by a single spreadsheet. The KenPom rankings and the results of the conference tournaments are plugged in. The top 36 teams in those rankings will join the automatic bids in the field, then everyone will be seeded according to their KenPom ranking alone. Here's what you'd be looking at.

First, the s-curve:

The KenPom s-curve 3/15
1 KENTUCKY ARIZONA WISCONSIN VIRGINIA
2 VILLANOVA Oklahoma Utah Duke
3 GONZAGA NOTRE DAME Kansas NORTHERN IOWA
4 IOWA STATE Michigan St. North Carolina Wichita St.

And finally, our bracket:

Final KenPom

Obviously, the bracket you get at the end of the Selection Show will look much different thanks to a number of different factors ranging from geography to the RPI. Just for a moment though, we can dream.
