Well it did not take very long to get our first Big East Player Of The Week. In fact it only took 3 days. 3 days, 4 games, one Big East Player Of The Week. The season kicked off with four road games. First one being at Army. In the seventh inning with one out and two runners on Andre would knock a two-run double which would give him his first RBIs of the season. If anything it was proper foreshadowing for Jernigan's weekend performance. Xavier would end up winning 5-4 and getting a well earned road kill. Jernigan finished 1-3 with 2RBIs a stolen base and was hit by a pitch. Next up was Boston College. Jernigan was anything but holding back this time. Going 4-5 with 2 runs 1 RBI, 2 steals and was a homerun away from completing the cycle. This effort was in a 14-7 defeat. Then later that day in a double header for Xavier they would play Wofford. The Xavier offense had rough time advancing runners against Wofford. Jernigan would go 1-3, with a stolen base and hit by a pitch. Xaiver would fall 11-3 to Wofford. Xavier would then get a second chance against Boston College to end their road trip. Jernigan would go 2-5 with 2 singles, 1 run, and 2 RBIs in a 9-4 revenge victory to finish off the road trip.
Xavier would end up finishing 2-2 only struggling on the day of the double header day. It was very good to come away with the last win against Boston College for both morale and to leave the road trip at 500%. Jernigan had an exceptional weekend and ended up batting 8-16 (500%) with 4 runs, 5 RBIs and 4 steals. If Jernigan can keep up this high OBP and aggressive base running this should be a promising season. Xavier will have another road trip this weekend in South Carolina where they will play Furman, Presbyterian, and Indiana. Maybe road trip success will become a staple for Jernigan. If so expect many more post about Andre Jernigan "Big East Player Of The Week." Lastly, I hope everyone knows what day it is.. Beat UC.
