Marquette hires Wojciechowski as head coach

Marquette seems to have ended their coaching search by landing Duke assistant Steve Wojciechowski.

Assuming that Jeff Goodman and the powers that be at ESPN are running one of the least interesting April Fool's jokes of all time, Marquette finally has their man. Steve Wojciechowski played for Duke in the 1990s, has been on the Duke coaching staff since 1999, and became an associate head coach in 2008. Wojciechowski replaces Buzz Williams, who left to take the illustrious Virginia Tech coaching job and follow in the footsteps of Seth Greenberg as bald men who have failed to make a basketball impact at a football school.

The most interesting thing to come out of this story though, is the fact that our Big East/SBN brothers over at Anonymous Eagle refuse to tweet or report anything on the story until Marquette has made it completely official. According to Brewtown Andy:

I hate April Fool's Day.

I mean, I guess maybe 15 years ago, it was okay. The occasional spring loaded "snake in a can," you know, silly, juvenile goofs, but ultimately harmless.

But now we're in the 21st Century, when it's much easier to construct an hoax that seems vaguely realistic. Fake news, fake updates, every one with a PR department thinks they're hilarious. It's all terrible.

While I agree with Andy on the premise of April Fool's Day, this one seems pretty real. Wojciechowski isn't Shaka Smart, but this should be a decent hire for the Golden Eagles.
