In order to meet NCAA guidelines regarding elite exempt events, Xavier has chosen to play in the Wooden Legacy event on November 27th-30th of 2014. That means that Xavier will still be able to play in a Thanksgiving tournament without coming a cropper of the NCAA rules regarding conference participants in exempt events.
According to the university:
The Musketeers switched the years of the two events primarily to accommodate the NCAA restrictions on multiple teams from the same conference participating in the same exempt event. Xavier, which became a member of the BIG EAST Conference in the 2013-14 season, applied for and received an exemption from the NCAA to participate in the 2013 Battle 4 Atlantis event along with fellow BIG EAST member Villanova. There is no guarantee that XU would have received an exemption for the 2014 Old Spice Classic, which already had a BIG EAST team as a guaranteed member of its field. Xavier wanted to lock in definite spots in these two elite exempt events. Elite exempt events are a key part of Xavier's non-conference scheduling philosophy.
The entire field for the event has not yet been announced. Hopefully, it goes better than this season's disastrous trip to the Bahamas.
