We have already seen the excellent breakdowns of Friday night's win and I think we are all riding high about this years season and team. Let's keep those good feelings going.
Xavier faces Providence in the Big East soccer championship today at PPL Park in Philadelphia. Xavier is the #2 seed in the tournament and is facing #4 Providence, who knocked off top seed Creighton. With a win, Xavier would advance to the NCAA tournament. Let's hope for a Musketeers win today at 5 pm. For those that have Fox Sports 2, the game will be televised.
Nice writeup in SI about Creighton without McDermott. This topic has been discusses so much since last year ended for them, but still a good read.
Big East teams are 9-0 after the first two days of games. This was expected, but avoiding upsets is a good way to start. The closest game was DePaul struggling with UIC, but the league is still undefeated.
Our friends at big east coast bias did a chat with Gary Parrish and Nicole Auerbach who do not think too highly of the new Big East. Yes, the league was more successful in the 1980s, but times change and conference realignment happens.
Iowa gives coach Fran McCaffery an extension and a raise. McCaffery was hired in 2010 to take over a program that had struggled for much of the last decade. His team finally broke through and made the big dance last season, so the school looked to lock him up. The deal runs through the 2019-2020 season.
Two for the price of one from Shannon Russell, as she looks into the relationship between the Stainbrook brothers - including Matt's giving up his scholarship for Tim - and Matt's part-time work as an Uber driver. Being brothers is kind of a theme here at Bannes, so we're suckers for this kind of piece.
Finally, Semaj still gets buckets:
Enjoy your Sunday everyone.
