Thursday News and Notes: one day away!

The season finally tips off tomorrow, but here's all the news from today.

Tip is only a day away.

How did you become a Xavier fan?- Drop by here and let us know how you ended up supporting the Musketeers. Whether it's a family tradition, or by virtue of attending the school, we'd love to hear.

The NCAA with another brilliant ruling- Did you know that anyone who redshirts after playing part of season must sit out twice as many games when he comes back? Probably not. What that means is that this year Oklahoma State Michael Cobbins will miss three games for playing a grand total of ten minutes back in 2010. That's the same amount as players suspended for drug and alcohol violations. In Wisconsin, Duje Dukan is missing four games after appearing in a scrimmage and an exhibition before redshirting in a season he lost to mono. Well done, NCAA.

If you think that is bad- Forgive me, as this isn't basketball related, but over in England Sheffield United are bringing back their star striker Ched Evans. Evans isn't returning to action from suspension or injury, but rather from jail time for committing a rape that he refuses to admit was a crime. Thankfully, there is plenty of outrage.

Back to basketball- Christopher Novak and Big East Coast Bias named Matt Stainbrook the best center in the Big East. The Stain Train easily cruised away from the other fives in a conference not exactly loaded at the center position right now.

Over in the AAC- Conference USA: The Comeback is making news for the wrong reasons as Memphis lost at home to a Division II team yesterday night. Keep that in mind while UC fans talk about how tough it is to go on the road in conference and win games. Either that, or Christian Brothers University is ready for the big time now. This would be the same Memphis, by the way, that ESPN expert Seth Greenberg picked to win the conference.
