NIT Selection Show and Primer

Xavier didn't make the big dance. Wondering what's next? We've got you covered.

Anthony Gruppuso-US PRESSWIRE

Update 9:28pm: here.

Xavier fans are understandably unfamiliar with the mechanics of the NIT process, but I'm here to help. The NIT Selection Show is on ESPNU at 9pm tonight, so order your hot wings and set your DVRs. If you're interested in NIT bracketology (and who isn't?) The Bracket Project has their picks up here and Bankroll Sports (obviously a reputable source) has theirs here.

The 32-team tournament itself will kick off this Tuesday and Wednesday, with the first-round games being played at the home courts of the higher-seeded teams. The higher seeds continue to host through the first three rounds, but the Final Four is played at Madison Square Garden.

As you can see from those links above, the jury is out on where Xavier will land. If they are hosting, the availability of the Cintas Center dictates that they will play on Tuesday. Obviously, it's a big deal to land in the top four seed lines to avoid having to travel to some place like Air Force or Long Beach to play. As soon as Xavier is slotted somewhere, we'll let you know and get working on providing the information you'll need to come off as an expert around the water cooler.
