CINCINNATI --- Xavier University head basketball coach Chris Mack announced that he has received signed scholarship papers from Matt Stainbrook, a 6-9 center who is transferring to Xavier after starting and leading his team in rebounding for two seasons at Western Michigan University. Stainbrook will be eligible as a redshirt junior beginning with the 2013-14 season.
"We are excited to add Matt to our program," said Mack. "In the classroom, he's top notch. On the court, he's big, skilled and productive. He is committed to using this coming year to get in the best shape of his life. I have complete confidence that Matt will have a positive impact in our program over the next three years."
Stainbrook played in 33 games as a sophomore this past season, starting 28 times. He led the team in rebounding at 6.8 rpg. and was second on the team in scoring at 11.4 ppg., while shooting 58.0 percent from the field. He scored a career-high 32 points against South Dakota State in the season opener
Stainbrook played in 34 games as a freshman in the 2010-11 season, starting 32 times. He led the team in rebounding at 6.4 rpg. and contributed 8.8 ppg. He scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds in his first collegiate game, a 68-65 loss to Xavier at Cintas Center on Nov. 12, 2010.
