Word broke this evening that four-star PF Melvin Swift has committed to Xavier. Swift is just a junior right now, so - barring any reclassifications, prep years, or eligibility issues - he won't join Xavier until the 2014-2015 season. He is a 6'7", 205-pound forward with the potential to add some size to that frame yet.
Scouting reports all concur on one thing about Swift: he has legitimate bounce. Melvin has the vertical leap to go up and get the ball, and it serves him well. He is athletic and active on the glass at both ends and runs the floor very well. He can also put the ball on the deck and score and score turning to his strong hand on the post. His shot could use some work; he tends to load the ball fairly low in catch-and-shoot situations. You can help a guy's shot mechanics, though; you can't teach leaping ability, at least not the kind Swift has.
