The Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association names ten players annually to the basketball scholar-athlete team, and one of those players this season is Matt Stainbrook. Where being an NCAA Academic All-American focuses mostly on high academic achievement while being a member of a sports team, this award demands that the player is "a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletics credentials." No more free rides, smart guys who just happened to sneak onto NCAA sports teams while we weren't looking.
Quoting from the school's press release:
Stainbrook, who holds a 3.343 G.P.A. as a finance major, is the Co-President of the Xavier University's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is a captain on the basketball squad. Stainbrook led Xavier in rebounding this past season at 7.4 rpg., while contributing 10.6 ppg. on a team that finished 21-13 overall and earned XU's eighth NCAA Tournament berth in nine years.
In lieu of congratulations (or perhaps in conjunction with them), retweet the tweet that Matt has been asking us to retweet from earlier, which I have linked below for you convenience. Create an account if you have to. In the interest of clarity, it should be noted that it is the parent tweet by the cleverly named "andystainbrook" account that Matt wants retweeted, and I'd say he's earned it.
@andystainbrook @HoodieAllen @mattvogelphoto #xaviernation do me a favor and retweet my brothers tweet this is attached to! @XUNation
