The win over St. John's: A 'Reynolds  wrap'

NEW YORK CITY- Much has been made of Jalen Reynolds’ outstanding performance in the Tuesday evening win over St. . John’s. The 65-53 victory by Xavier was largely due to Reynolds, not just filling in with front court (Matt Stainbrook) foul trouble, but taking it to the proverbial other level. Let’s look at Reynolds performance in terms of ’efficiency’. The model we use is the same employed by a number of analysts and the NBA/WNBA. The formula;

EFF = Pts + REB + STL + BLK Shots + Assists - (missed FGA + missed FTA + TO)

Entering the game Reynolds averaged about 10 minutes per contest his efficiency average (total efficiency divided by games) was in Big East play. On Tuesday at the ’world’s most famous arena’ Reynolds had game highs of 17 points and 16 rebounds for an efficiency of 25. Easily the best number in that contest and a metric indicative of an outstanding performance.

Reynolds through eleven conference games before Tuesday had a 4.2 per game efficiency. His aggregate eleven game total was an efficiency of 42. That number he came close to matching an outstanding night of 29 minutes. A night that helped Xavier exit the Garden with an important victory.

"He (Reynolds) was just a monster on the floor" - Xavier coach Chris Mack
