2013 recruit Chris Thomas, the #1 ranked shooting guard on Rivals, an ESPN Super 60, and a consensus five star talent, has chosen Xavier. Thomas, a 6'5", 190lb guard from Colorado, can score in bunches but has always been dogged by allegations of lacking the mental makeup required to play at the NCAA D1 level. That rap followed Thomas from Montbello (CO), to Princeton Day (MD), to Westwind Prep (AZ), to South Kent (CT), from which he jumped to Chipola Community College despite having a year of high school eligibility left.
All that bouncing around does lend itself to a bit of wondering as to what is going on inside Thomas' head. He never played at Montbello, and according to CBT, proved himself to be a hothead during the summer league circuit. The other thing Thomas proved was that he can score, and score a lot. According to ESPN, Thomas already has the body and skill of an NBA scoring guard. Thomas excels mostly off the dribble, but also occasionally showcases an effective long range jumper. There are many reports questioning Thomas' mentality, but no one questions his ability to score efficiently and in bunches.
To be eligible at Xavier, Chris Thomas will have to post a 2.5 GPA at Chipola. Rasheen Davis and Chris Mack beat Arizona, Florida, and national champion Kentucky in the recruiting battle for Thomas. Currently Coach Mack has four commits for his 2012 class, but Thomas makes the first for the 2013 class.
